If you have a favorite or necessary color, I would go buy a few pots soon. Rumors are that the Citadel paint range is in for a big change. There seems to be 3 popular theories floating: 1. Reshuffling of colors, with some dissappearing and maybe some old ones coming back (PLEASE Brazen Brass!) 2. All paints will be "categorized" to promote a particular painting style and try to get you to buy more paints (e.g. As there is already Washes and Foundation, now the current paints will be called "Base" or "Highlight" to get you to do a 3-6 step painting process) 3. All paint names will be changed to a copyrightable alternative (e.g. Regal Blue may become Thousand Son Blue and Blood Red may become Blood Angel Red) More information can be found on DakkaDakka: www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/421259.page

The more I paint the more I like using many different paints and washes to create depth. Since obviously GW's target market is just old enough not to choke on the sprue, my feeling is they had a big meeting, led by some skilled painter(who they paid a god awful amount of money to), who recommended the basically spell out which colors go onto the model is which order. This way when the kiddies are finger painting they will have wasted three times the paint.
Hopefully they come back out with multiple colors of spray primer... otherwise army painter here I come!

Really?? They have to go and mess with the paints? Next you'll hear them say that due to all the positive feedback an popularity they are going to convert all modes to Finecast.

This came off a forum over at DakkaDakka: more news, the line will have foundations, base coats, and layer paints for sure, there was an EBAY post that has been subsequently removed.
Quote from tybalt russ of the 40k nation; 40knation.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=195:citadel-paint-rumors-2&catid=56:gw-new-releases
Well it seems that the new Citadel Paints have showed up on Ebay. If this leak is true, well then. They are still in the same crappy pots. Foundation paints have not seemed to have changed. But names and "types" have changed.
As you can see in the picture. The paints are now broken down into 3 "types": Foundation, Base, and Layer. The one on the far left now says "Base" above the paint name. The three on the right say "Layer" above the name. This seems that Citadel is helping out the newer painters. By saying you start with foundation paint, then a base paint followed by layer paints to highlight. Seem simple enough.
They have also added a paint spatter mark to the label. The three "Layer" paints are in a light blue color. The "base' paint is in a red color. It seems like this is to make it easier to tell which is "Base" and which is "Layer". I like the idea, at a glance with them setting on a self; I could pick them out quickly by color and the mark.
Last but not least, are the names. "OMG what have they done?".
Ebay Citadel Paint Auction
Starting on the left:
"Base" Screaming Bell. I cannot tell what color it supposed to be.
"Foundation" Mechrite Red. Has not changed. Thank the Emperor!!!
"Layer" White Scar. Looks to be Skull White.
"Layer" Cadian Fleshtone. Looks like Elf Flesh to me.
"Layer" Slaanesh Grey. Looks like a Codex Grey to me.
Well, I believe one reason is that they are now copyrightable names. We know how GW likes to have copyrights to everything (lol).
So in conclusion. The pots stayed the same, new look to the label, and new names. Well in the last article is said "Their GW rep told them that this is going to be as big as the change from inks to washes.". Well to me this is way bigger than that. Way to shake things up GW!!!

This makes me feel a little better, but I still think that until we see a definitive list of paints (and their new names), you should stock up on any absolutely essential colors.
This probably means a price increase, too, afterall.

This probably means a price increase, too, afterall. What do you mean a price increase? Games Workshop isn't the type of company to rake their customers over the coals and take advantage of them in any way. They would never...oh, wait. Yes. Yes they would.

Wazzdakka: On that note you might like this article or hate it... www.fightingtigersofveda.com/roarseconomics.htmlObviously he makes some logical speculation, The article is not current, and I bet he is a bit off on the actual profit line... but its not that ridiculous... If mostly true it would explain GW's wish to come out with products that add to the bottom line...

Hooray for smartphones! That was a very thought-provoking article. Considering my occasional ranting and raving about GW price hikes, I have to admit this article is making me re-think my stance. I suppose I've forgotten that when the economy goes south, it effects everyone -- including companies like GW.
Dammit. My hate was keeping me warm. Now I'm getting a little chilly.

Actually, I started the research in an attempt to directly compare the weight in ounces of a GW model to that of gold... sadly that comparison will have to wait...

It will be annoying to figure our what names the paints we already use have changed to, but hopefully they are all there.
Potential good news: a white foundation (hopefully available as an individual pot, and not part of a set like it is now) and the return of a pink!

Good thing the only paints I know the proper names of are Chaos Black, boltgun metal, blood red... and maybe some washes....
The rest, well its like,..." that looks fun!" So I'm not too worried... Besides, the above mentioned ones ones are the only ones I run out of quickly... Well that and the red "base".... but with only two reds I hope I can figure out which one is more merchrite-ish...
What would be really nice is if gw also released a "formerly known as" directory... At least to their suppliers... I mean it was the only way we knew who prince was so there is already a precedence for its marketing practicality...
Ha, I still have an almost full bottle of tenticle pink!
Thanks for the heads up Servo!
