OK...
So today I was PM'd by Servo asking if picking up the new white dwarf is worth it after I had told him I picked it up....
But I felt a response is better sent to all for efficiency...
My vote is pick it up. Yes it is an overpriced magazine which is surprisingly obvious that it is a 130 page advertisement. Sears sends out bigger adverts for xmas for free... I get it. The "articles" are clearly designed to higlight new materials and even the battle reports are highlighting new models to push sales. I get it.
The reason I fell like it is not a wasted purchase for this months issue is the focus on the new paints. The is a whole gallery of the paints, a suggested layering chart, there are pages of step by step model painting pics demonstrating how the paints layer, and more than that, each segment in the gallery discusses the purpose of each type of paint and gives examples. I was also a bit impressed that they used chaos black as the basecoat to demonstrate the base paints... I think we have all been there when black undercoat just makes things difficult... Lastly the last page has the conversion chart printed... Meaning you wont have to bring your laptop to the store when your buying paints... That's just silly.
I dont think everyone needs to have a copy, but I find recently, I have been getting more into the painting and actually am interested in trying out new paints or looking for a broader pallet... I even started buying paints from other companies like P3 to facilitate this... Having 70 extra paints to dip my brush in... could be fun...
I really like that the text even shows ways to simplify painting(as I think "army painter" has taken from there market share) and says I can paint x in only three steps....
If you are planning on using GW paints... simply, it will make your life easier...
Yay for the overpowered Swarmlord and friends beating most of the space wolves battle box... no surprise, it doesnt come with a runepriest who can kill him turn 1.... Woo Hoo! What a fair depiction of the game... Thank you GW...
But for me and anyone else looking for how to use these new paints(above and beyond just using the conversion chart) I like it. I will actually be trying the face painting demo on my new IG...
Before you buy.... you can check it out anyway... These paints will be here for a while, so eventually, when you run out of something... it will be nice to have.
Food for thought...

Thank you for your input. I believe there was an important lesson learned here: If I need to ask someone a simple yes/no question, I'll make sure it's not you! ;D

On "Johnny's" advice, I bought the current White Dwarf.
I agree with him, it is very useful for the painting tips and the old-to-new paint name conversion chart. If anyone is planning on getting Space Wolves, definitely get this issue. There is a whole article decribing how to paint every unit.
If you don't want this issue ($9 is ridiculous for a magazine that doesn't even show penetration!), I recommend stopping by a GW anyway. They are handing out little cards for every army which shows a picture of a main troop and lists the paints used for that model. Very useful and FREE!
