So I am almost done with one squad of vets... Yes, they still need drybrushing and washes, but at least they have a theme... With the bits I picked up online I could almost have 2 squads done in a short time!
Now to figure out a paint scheme for vehicles... I still like the idea of a camo scheme, and then I could paint my Karskins in the same camo pattern... Any suggestions?
My favorite little detail so far is the bodyguards of the Company Commander are going to be painted in all red, like the emporers guards in starwars!
Its going to be legendary!
Any word on a store in the area that sells static grass for basing? I originally wanted to do ash... but turns out it looks too much like snow... So back to more traditional basing!
Pics to be shared when their prettiness is at a better level!

>i get all my flock/lichen/static grasses at Hobby Lobby. the one here in Jackson has a pretty good selection. Woodland Scenics is the brand i use for the most part. get those damn pics up! i'm still waffling between Necrons and Dark Eldar for my next army - still a long ways off, regardless.

The store here just has flock... and static grass looks sooo much cooler! I did check the woodland scenics section as they do make a fine product. I just found their selection lacking when im used to going to D&J hobby, coincidentally the same one the mythbusters used to go to before they got too big...

>painting yellow is a BITCH. if you're using the new paint range, check the painting guide, or alternately, check WD march 2013, pp 116-117. i personally use old paints. i undercoat with fortress grey, base with desert yellow, then work my way up using thinned out golden yellow and bad moons yellow. the guards look good, tho, man!<

So here is the Co0mmander I am currently working on. Not as I do want him to have the powerfist(he is going to strike last anyway) and the plasma pistol... I had to cut of his metal laspistol hand and pin on a space marine hand holing a plasma pistol... Now that its based it is hard to see. Now it might be easy to tell if you are paying very close attention... but has anyone noticed he is being painted to look in part like a certain Street Fighter II character? Yah, just could not help it. after staring at the model trying to figure out where to go with it. For anyone who did not remember. And yes I actually Kustom made a cape today... Which seriously I am really happy with... but need to add some bits to and paint to make it presentable... Overall I am pretty happy. Yes he is painted black, but to go with the renegade/Star Wars/Starship troopers thing I have going... The commander who will actually be lurking about has to be my Vader... Maybe I will make a whole robe for the Commander who sits back with the master of ordnance... and paint him really pale... The rest of the list... Got 16 cadians and 2 Heavy weapons platforms(2 squads) at the base coat and first wash stage... So in less than a week they will be done... Which will leave my kustom plasma vet conversions.(now spray based and black painted) My tanks and vendetta... arrgh... It really takes a lot of time even with a simple paint job like mine... but honestly its been really relaxing and satisfying!

>looks good. they named that SF guy M.Bison. he was SUPPOSED to be named Balrog, but there was a mixup with the names when the Street Fighter game was made, and Balrog ended up as the boxer (M.Bison = Mike Tyson), whereas the main bad guy ended up with the wrong name. little known, and definitely useless trivia.<

Yah, I think I heard that too...
Any ideas for bits to add to his chest to make him a bit more vaderish... without stealing too much from the M. Bison thing?
Additionally, if I am making my own Marbo what should I use for a demo charge?
I was thinking some meltabombs clumped together and an auspex put on that cluster with wires coming off the bombs?
Could it be so simple? Or should I gray stuff a bunch of "dynamites" and then use some other bit for a "control screen"...

Got two squads of cadians, basic troops almost fully based... now to mess with the statis grass. I have heard a thin layer of pva glue followed by dipping into the grass, then holding it upside down and blowing on it is the best way to make it stand up and look like grass...
Has anyone else used the product. I have seen amazing results before, but I am new to this "non-flock" basing thing...
any pointers will help!

Spent close to 4 hours today hobbying! The main issue was it takes forever to clip a model from the sprues and file it down.
So for hours today I clipped bits off the valkerie sprue then filed all the remaining nubs off from the clippings...
And yes, I am excited about building one, I really feel like its a great kit and model!
Here is what sux... you have to assemble the transport troop holding area first...and once its aassembeled you cannot paint it to any high level of detail... so a person building this model has to paint the whole insides before assembly... and this includes gunners and monitors etc...
I was hoping to build it then paint...
Also I learned that while the kit comes with all options for the valkerie... it is missing a pair of twin linked lascannons to make it a vendetta... Unbelievable on a 70.00 model labeled valkerie/vendetta on box.
Sure it just means a little extra work at grabbing up the bits on ebay... but come on!
Either way... they really look cool so I am excited!
Pics to follow!

Tonight, set the stage for another 10 guardsmen to be completed, plus some additional vets, not including basing. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to upload some photos onto here! I am going to make a push at finishing the Vendetta, except for the lascannons I need to convert, but with my current ebay winnings and the 3 extras I won this week(for super cheap obviously) Shouldn't be an issue. As this is a little off topic, but still on modeling, I totally won 15 ea. of chaos chainswords, chaos bolters, and close combat weapons for 6.50 on the ebay as well. My dream of the convertible marines is even closer to fruition!!!(for the record its a great price for the bitz!!!) If you would like to be proud of me for my great win, check out the prices here: bitzbarn.com/oscommerce/catalog/index.php?cPath=22_34_91&osCsid=1ptm19bqp3cgj8uqttlnfkd8o5

Now the big thing I will be working on is draping Gray stuff over a model to make it look like the Emperor, formerly Senator Palpatine...
Although it does strike me as funny that I am making a psuedo renagade list with has some basis on Star Wars... Except in that series they were the power holders. Unlike how in the 40k universe the renegades are being hunted down sort of like Jedi's... Maybe I just support the underdog in most cases... and since I have decided to avoid the blood splatter and Chaos iconography I can choose to field them as regular or renegade guard pending on the game.
And ultimately guard can "ally" with chaos or Astartes without justification or back story... but as you all know, I love the fluff!

Sorry, its just that its hard to get together for things... I will keep it in mind! Thanks! So as for the Promised pictures: Here is the most finished squad of Cadians. Note that they are all based and have the highest level of adornment... Although I am happy with them, I feel like besides static grass, They will need some extra detail added. Here is The 2nd Squad, note less basing and a few less details. Heres a pic of all painted infantry men... or should we say... Meat for the grinder! Now thats a lot of modeling!!! So this leads me to my plasma vets... Well as you know I won a lot of stuff for cheap on ebay... The one thing I really wanted but could not find cheap were melta vets! So I hatched a plan! As far as I could tell, the only place to get a Cadian Plasma Gunner was to buy the command set for 25$ or buy the metal mini for $20(to be fair it comes with a melta guy too). The bits were going for 7.00 for either the body and gun, or the gun alone... So Instead of buckle under the pressure and buy a bunch of real ones... I bought three of these(all that was available): Trimmed it up a bit and filled in the hole in the shoulder pad... Then combined this new "trigger" with plasma guns from my bit box that I cut the trigger out of! They look pretty damn good: compared with the real one out of the box: So.. Then there was the issue of wanting to make one being held under the gun... So uing the above methods I trimmed out the trigger and replaced it with a new one containing a cadian limb. I then removed the lover half of a cadians arm and most of the arm holding the gun: Then after gluing the gun in his hand and adding gray stuff.... He looked like this: Then I sculpted a bit... Its curing now... So probably saved 30.00 on those conversions... but they are unique and my own!
