In case anyone is interested, my co-worker Greg told me this morning that the shop he goes to in DeKalb (New Game In Town) will be running an official demo of Infinity in September. He will provide the date when they get it nailed down, but he knows it will be on a Saturday. They also run smaller demos on some Thursdays, these usually involve proxying figures for smaller games (about 150 points, takes about a 1/2 hour).
Every army (except Mercs) has a 6 figure starter set that can be purchased on the Warstore for $35.99; depending on the army, these sets fall somewhere between 100-150 points, and you CAN play a small game just with these. Individual figures can also be purchased in blister packs, and are very affordable (when was the last time you paid $8.99 for a figure?) A good sized standard game is about 300 points, which can easily be done for about $90-$120. A 300 point game should consist of about of 8 to 15 figures. It's much more affordable than 40k, but I should also mention that there is talk of a price increase. Greg said last time there was an increase, it was 10 cents per blister and maybe a buck or two for packs. It'll probably be more this time, but we'll see.
Cover is a huge factor. You know how we use lot of cover compared to other 40k battle reports? Yeah, that might be enough for Infinity...but more is preferable! The figures are the same scale as 40k, but they aren't as bulky as the 40k figures, and they are all metal. They have a very cool futuristic/Japanime look to them. I'm excited at the prospect of making terrain for this game. I have lots of awesome ideas running through my melon.
Oh, and Corvus Belli (the makers of Infinity) provide their rulebook for free. Yep, free. And there is a new campaign ruleset coming out that contains rules for earning experience in a campaign. Reminds me of Necromunda.
If anyone is interested in checking this out, let me know. It certainly wouldn't hurt to look into a cheaper alternative!
