- Plastic Cutter/Snipper ($15.00 @ GW): Cousin Flush Cutter (~$5.00 @ Walmart; good ones can also be found at Hobby Lobby or any craft store for about $8)
- Matte Sealant ($15.00 @ GW): Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating ($5.99 @ Hobby Lobby; suggested by Tiamat)
- Plastic Glue ($6.60 @ GW): Model Master Liquid Cement for Plastic Models ($5.00 @ Hobby Lobby) This is a MUCH better glue and it has a better applicator.
- Grass/Flock ($8.25 for 15g): Woodland Scenics Turf ($3.99 for 326g @ Hobby Lobby)
I won't even go into the silliness of buying GW tape measurers, Xacto knives, or needle files. You should buy these items ANYWHERE else and they will be A LOT cheaper.

The great thing about shopping at Hobby Lobby is if the item you are purchasing isn't on sale, thjey usually have a 40% off coupon on their website, and you don't eve have to print it. If you can access the internet on your phone, just show show it to the cashier and they will apply it! Now there's a company with great customer service.

>paint alternatives:
i've already discussed a few undercoat sprays in other posts, but Color Place sprays from WalMart are cheap and effective. plus they dry quickly, and acrylic paints stick to them quite well.
as for acrylics, the stuff WalMart carries is called Plaid. other names made by the same company are Folk Art and Apple Barrel. a GW paint costs about $3 for a .4oz bottle. any of the above mentioned bottles cost between 53 cents to $1.97 for a full 2oz bottle. $4 the other day got me enough black and metallic silver paint to mix about 8 bottles worth of Boltgun Metal. This morning i picked up antique gold and chocolate brown to mix up a bottle of Brazen Brass - which GW stopped making several years ago. mixing your own paints is a HUGELY cheap alternative to GW paints. the only problem i've had is finding bottles to hold them, but i know they sell small glass bottles at Hobby Lobby and other art supply stores.
now, a question: does anyone know where to get a cheap hot wire cutter, or online instructions on making your own for cheap? it would be handy for making terrain.<

I painted my Storm Raven using Red Pepper colored Krylon Fusion for Plastic spray paint. I bought it at Walmart for $4.95. It is a bit glossy and little darker than blood red but it saved me an Ass ton of time. I have to put on a second coat. I did test whether the GW paints would bond to it and they do. Black and Gold look great. I'll use Blood Red for touch up. I have a matte clear coat spay that I plan to use at the end. I tested it on a troop. Couldn't really tell if it worked. It certainly didn't ruin it. I'll keep everyone posted. Or you can judge for yourselves as the Stormraven annihilates you.

OH NO!!!! Matt, haven't you seen the warnings about Krylon paint on plastic miniatures? The paint DISSOLVES all the plastic into a giant heap exactly 72 hours after you put it on!

I know, its weird, isnt it? Then the paint automatically applies itself to all your couch cushions. Then it drink all the milk in your refrigerator and puts back an empty carton. Then it goes back in time to sleep with your grandmother before your grandfather does, so you are never born.
Those engineers at Krylon are real jerks.

>with a very "red thirst" - like gusto. anybody got anything on that hot wire cutter? like a cheap alternative?< Are you looking for a wand or a wire? It wouldnt be too hard to make your own wire cutter. You just need a tube large enough to hold two D cell batteries, and the minor know-how (very minor, as in "this wire is positive, this wire is negative") to wire them. You'll also need some type of metal support to attach to the tube and spread the wire out between them; a thin metal dowel should work as long as it's bendy.
The important thing to remember is not to use plastic in the construction of the tube. Cardboard tubes would work well, like to ones from a roll of paper towels. You can make caps out of cardboard and tape. And after thinking about this and picturing how to do it cheap, I've suddenly come to one conclusion: maybe some things just aren't easitly and safely done on the cheap. But hey, if you want to go for it, don't blame me when you burn off yer digits!

>i think i'll have to line the inside of the tube with foil for conductivity, and as for the wire support, i'm thinking of cannibalizing a coping saw.<

You won't need foil if you make certain the batteries are touching and the wiring is properly connected to the positive and negative terminals. You'll prpobably want to use a spring to make certain the batteries are flush. By the time you find the necessary parts and assemble it though...might be pointless. Woodland Scenics makes one that you can get for around $7-$9 depending on where you get them.

I am finally painting my ruins, so I needed ALOT of Black Wash.
I just bought 200 ml of Vallejo Black Shade for $11.
GW sells 12 ml of the same (called Nuln Oil) for $4.
I will test and compare, but I was assured by the shopkeep that they are virtually the same.
Also, I doubt if I will ever go through this much, so let me know if anyone wants some.
