>This was a fun addition to Da Gobstompa. in reading Mark Jones' "Kustomizin' Da Stompa" article in WD350 (an essential issue for the ork hobbyist), i was impressed with a LOT of his konversions. as a matter of fact, i used most of them in my initial building of the kit. obviously, i've replaced the choppa arm since then, but the ball turrets for grot guns, the skullplate/searchlight eye, the grot crow's nest, the banner poles, etc, still have bits of his ideas in them. i didn't like his "more dakka" idea, tho, so i came up with my own.
effectively, it was pretty simple to build. i cut out a 1" square of foamcore and glued cardstock on all six sides. i cut several strips of additional cardstock and glued them at odd bends to "hold together" the basic construction. small rivets were glued to each of these (see Da Kataklyzm Arm), and the glyph plates are all cardstock as well. gimme a break, i made this a while back, and at the time, my selection of materials was pretty limited. it works tho, dunnit?
both barrels of the shootas are just cut from spare big shootas off the boyz sprue, but i put a small bit of plasticard to link them together, cut to fit. once i had them together, i stuck them on a rectangle of cardstock, and i glued that to a slightly larger rectangle of the same. pretty simple.
now the masterpiece of this silly add-on: the "krew kompartment." i love the fact that on this whole construct, the grot gunner would definitely FIT, but in theory would have approximately an inch to move on all sides. heehee, anybody remember when they NAILED ork pilots into Dreds? anyways, i put yet another strip of cardstock wiv rivets towards the front of the turret just for additional detail. wasn't really necessary, but i like the look. anyways, i cut a short length of 1/2" PVC and capped it with cardstock and another wheel from my Chemical Factory kit (best $10 i ever spent). finally, i took a pin vice and drilled the holes for the "mesh" looking viewport. glued that to the top of the turret, and thats pretty much the whole thing. oh, i drilled a hole in the center of the underside of the turret and glued a short length of paperclip wire for a "post." drilled a corresponding hole in the top of the kit's turret and glued them together facing different directions. i SUPPOSE i could have left it unglued and swivel-able, but as the extra turret is simply another part of the "Deff Arsenal" upgrade to a Stompa, it really wasn't necessary. and that's all i have for tonite. probably. more pics to follow.<
