En route to the eye of terror, a barely message audible came from one of the systems.
This is a record of that transmission:
Begin audible transmission:….they’ve taken all of our soldiers…. Static… they run wild in the streets screaming…. Static… the things ive seen, have you ever seem your friends eyes gouged out and then… static.. oh no they have heard me….make them stop screaming! No No…. Psyclon 9… send help immediately… static… may the emperor protect… static… End transmission
We thought at first it was orks but it seemed odd as orks don’t generally take prisoners… no this was something else… something dark. .. Our thoughts led to daemonic assault… this we were prepared for, this was our crusade... Nothing like a little practice before heading into the eye of terror where pustules of rotting flesh birth hordes of nurglings or bloodletters dance in the remains of your forward command giving praise to that S.O.B Khorne, hellblades sizzling with their blood… What we found was worse…
The details will be omitted from this account, and attached to form 10-9-B-020, but I will say this… we need to get to Commorragh with titans and wipe the emperor forsaken waste from the universe… In my opinion as soon as possible.
Whatever happened there happened quick and painfully. Vehicles lay abandoned, the loudspeakers still boomed the emperors praise, blood splatter marked the city like viral infection, or maybe just a reminder that colonists from terra had been here…
It was far too quiet for Orks, who would have been waiting for a fight if we had guessed wrong … and clean… Deamons like to hang around and play with their prey… This we could not find a trace of… For a colony planet it looked very pure… Following up on a sensor anomaly we found a webway portal close to its main city. But the books say even Eldar don’t seek this kind of punishment, even if the next Slaanesh was coming of age it would have been a quiet assassination… Dark Eldar, was the cold whisper the facts pointed to…
It was as if they had heard our thoughts, damn those witches!!!But no sooner than we had this thought, a scouting landspeeder was downed… The crew never to be seen again…
They had truly taken the planet… and as we had investigated they had been plotting our demise…
We had to push them back into the webway or kill them all trying… we had to hold the planet for the Emperor!!!
Looking across the planet we decided the main city, “The Emperors Grace,” offered us the best chances of controlling the battle against what must have been a large number assailants…
I called to have the venerable dreadnought, Tiberious, prepped for deployment… He was always ready to shed some blood… and would be the quickest reserve unit I could deploy.
We needed to take a few key points, if these were overrun, they would take us like they did the poor souls of The Emperors Grace before we arrived…. But we were only a few(a scouting party… We had to strike before our reinforcements could arrive from our ships above… we had to be the Emperors blade.
They had secured the city, for this I was impressed… though the eons of warfare seen by their alien eyes must have given them an advantage…
Across city walls from our position loomed 30 warriors, down city streets to their left lay one of their dreaded Chronos Engines, directly to the left of this taking advantage of cover were more warriors and to the edges of the city (besides the vibration of something in the air )layed a Talos and their leader with his bodyguard of incubi!!!
Turn1
We moved forward slowly… I issued a command to stay out of sight to make sure we held our key positions… I told the typhoons to take shots at whatever they could see without exposing themselves… They were able to hit and wound the Chronos Engine, for a second I thought it would go down, but it shook of the krak missle like it was a small rock…
The incubi and warlord moved in on our position, sensing the need to obtain key objectives. In the sky we finally saw the reavers dash across our line of site… waiting to engage…
Turn 2
Our Ship relayed the information that the warriors were just a head, trying to take a key intersection to hold the city. They were crazy, but not stupid. My rhino and the Emperors champions rhino headed toward this location.
The dark elder forces, possibly bored by our prehistoric modern machinery moved forward to attack….
Finding nothing which suited their whimsy they closed in around us.
Turn 3 “the battle begins”
Upon reaching the the cities core we found the Dark Eldar and deployed to great effect… We had Johnson first flamer them before things got too gritty then mopped up after… they tried to run but we caught the stragglers and consolidated toward the next band of warriors…
The typhoons tried hard to get a clear shot at the Chronos Engine and scored another wound..
It continued to move towards us, but we knew we wouldn’t be able to deal with it until we fought off the warriors present.
The reavers tried to down one of the typhoons, but their blades, meant for slicing flesh caused no damage… but as lightly armored as they are, I considered this lucky…
The Incubi and the Archon continued to advance, using the Talos as a screen… It was only a matter of time before I would have to deal with that mess…
A sniper squad of dark elder fired a Dark Lance at one of the typhoons, missing… probably too amped on the attack before…
The warriors we were heading toward decided that we played too rough with their friends and opened fire to soften us up… I saw several good marines perish in that instance… My rage was growing into a tangible being of the Emperors will…
Turn 4
We ran forward and got revenge for our fallen brethren… slicing the warriors into pieces… but the Chronos engine was coming in close…
The Emperor’s champion hopped out of his rhino and engaged the mechanical monstrosity. When the battle ended it was the champion who emerged victorious, I am glad he is on our side…
Tiberious landed, but the drop pods guidance put him a bit too far away to do anything. So he started heading towards the sniper squad as they seemed to be his best choice of attack… especially since they were guarding another key component of the city…
The Talos, Incubi, and Archon were close on its heals… sensing that the end was near began running towards us…
The reavers boosted into position to take the objective from us, I had to do something…
The sniper squad shot at a typhoon again, one missing, one disableing its typhoon missile system…
Things were closing fast, my third mobile squad had neither seen nor heard anything in their area, and though they wanted badly to join the fight, they followed orders and guarded one of the key points…
Turn 5
Seeing the Archon dashing down the street behind the Talos sent shivers up my spine… So I ordered my squads rhino to block the way… stalling for time…
I charged the squad of reavers, they must not have been expecting it as they fell lifelessly from the sky, after a short battle ending with a powerfist smashing one of their super fast bikes in mid flight…
Tiberious lumbered towards the sniper squad but was still out of range to hit anything with his lascannon and heavy flamer…
Turn 6
Tiberious made it within striking range for his flamer and fried a few of these tiny agile monsters… but could not fit through the portcullis to attack in hand to hand combat… A note to the colony planning commission, please build structures dreadnoughts can walk through, they are integral parts of our assaults and the lack of mobility could have caused additional losses to manpower and the defense of the Emperors hold on the galaxy. To properly hold the Emperors property we need maneuverability. I have formally registered the complaint with the proper department.
The Talos ripped open my squad’s rhino like it was made of glass.
The archon and his crew ran around the side of the exploded wreckage and assaulted my squad.
I’ve never seen so many marines get sliced to bits(literally, before they hit the ground they were sliced multiple times into severed pieces), these incubi are monsters… The Archon charged me, I could see his glowing husk blade thirsting for my flesh and soul… 4 hits I blocked with my storm shield… If only one had caused a wound I would not be able to write this report, I struck back with a vengeance, slaying this daemon-like witch…
I was all alone, surrounded by what would have been my last battle, the champion was just about ready to make another bold charge to help me when something vibrated through the air. My best description would be the sound of a large bell ringing being played backwards and distorted in some way… as if possibly from another dimension…. The incubi across from me started backing away and the talos as well… when I turned to see the rest of my executioners… they were gone… Perhaps my flaming rhino was covering my line of site to a portal… or the incubi had been carrying a portal creation device… possibly taking it off their leaders fresh corpse… how does a talos just disappear?
We had held the city and saved what was left of the planet. We found no survivors hiding in the wreckage…
The webway portal was destroyed… and though we set up sentries in the time between the disappearance and the demolition… we did not detect anything entering it or even coming close… There must be another entrance.
UPDATE:
It appears that for reasons still unknown, specific citizens had been abducted starting months before the attack by “strange beings”. These survivors were found unconscious but otherwise unharmed across the galaxy in different settlements and cities… At this point the reports are still coming in. The inquisition has placed blame on the Eldar. These people have been placed on the appropriate watch lists until, if ever, it is determined why they were rescued.
