Adepticon released the schedule for the 2014 convention: Adepticon 2014 ScheduleConvention is weekend of April 3-6, 2014. Those of us that went the last 2 years had a great time. Screw Games Day, this is better. And this is FREE! Other game systems on display and demo; vendors from all over for all systems; wandering around looking and drooling over people's armies. I could spend half the day just looking through the bits vendors and walking out with a bag of useful bits for $5 or so. Tiamat: want to make a trip for the weekend?

If Tiamat comes up for the weekend, I'm going to insist on wiring him some cash so he can bring up a few (dozen) cases of that Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale. Hoooo-wee, that's some good drinkin'!

We can certainly try! Lazy Magnolia is the brewery that makes it; the only distributors listed on their website are all in the southeastern states (except for one in Texas; yee haw!).

Ok, people, let's hope I linked this right. Below is a link to a folder of the pics I took at Adepticon this year. I only got about 75 photos, and most of them were multiple photos of the same subject to insure I got a good shot. Rather then pick and choose one photo from each subject, thus robbing you from marveling at my average photographer's skill, I choose to provide you with access to the full collection (in other words, I'm too lazy to edit the folder). Let me know if there are any permission issues accessing the folder.Adepticon 2014 pics

Some nice pics in there, Sil. Thanks. The Fantasy display we all drooled over won some awards: from TwitterI know I had a lot of fun. Thanks to all who went. Some highlights: - Deep Wars - Anti-Matter Games
25mm wargame (like WH40K) set on the sea bottom. I really liked the models and the background. There are men in diver suits, fish people, robots, and giant sea creatures. they had built to light-wired submarines to play in, one of which was built inside a whale. Very cool. - Battle Zones - Mantic Games
Alternate terrain for 40K. Modular and cheaper than GW equivalents. - Warmachine - Warmachine
As usual, Warmachine has some great models out. The Goreshade the Bastard model and entire Retribution of Scyrah line are particularly sweet! - Twisted - Demented Games
Steam Punk combat! Sil Odin spent some time over there talking to the reps, so anyone interested should ask him. I just thought it looked cool. - Crystal Brush - Adepticon's model-painting awards, equivalent to Golden Daemon. The cases were filled with beautiful models that made us all feel bad about our own meager painting skills. I liked the 3 cowboy ghosts from Malifaux best.
- WH40K Tournament Hall - As usual, walking around looking at the creatively-painted armies in actual battle was a great part of the day. Gave me lots of ideas, and made me want to paint some more VERY badly.
- Vendors - Some pretty good deals. My favorite was the "bits" seller. I found ton of bits I needed to finish my Space Marine Veterans and several Ork units for about $6.
Only real complaint was there was no demo for X-Wing, probably because it is REALLY popular right now. They don't need to demo any more. I will post more as I remember it.

I should have posted sooner, but I've been a wee bit busy as of late. I am in agreement with Servo with many of the points he brought up, especially concerning the lack of an X-wing demo; I was looking forward to giving it a go.
Malifaux - I've been interested in checking this game out, and I did get to try a demo. Very interesting. No dice are used; instead this game combines miniatures with a card mechanic. What I also found interesting is you are "encouraged" to cheat (in a sense). Some of these models are simply amazing! Servo and I were quite taken by some Death Marshalls we saw on display for the Crystal Brush.
Twisted - Of all the new games we spied, this one caught my attention immediately. It's a steampunk offering from Demented Games; the book of concept art they brought drew my attention immediately; fascinating characters! The models they had on display were even more impressive. 40K figures are referred to as "Hero" scale on account of the bulk of the figures for 28mm scale; I believe these figures were also 28mm (not 100% sure). However, unlike 40k sizes, most (not all) of the figures they showed seemed delicate and graceful. Not fragile, but extremely well-cast. So well, that upon first viewing I thought they were solid, one piece models rather than multi-part. I was wrong; even when holding an unpainted model, I couldn't detect any seams on them! This is their M'dusa sculpt by Sebastian Archer, entered into the Crystal Brush; it took first place in the Sculpts category:
Great stuff! Look for them to be on Kickstarter soon. Better yet, go to their webpage and sign up on the mailing list (Servo provided the link above, so excuse me for being lazy).
Deep Wars - The first time we walked past this display, there was nothing out other than the game board, which was well painted but had nothing else to show. The second time we spotted it, a demo was going on and it stopped us in our tracks! The setup was gorgeous, and features undersea combat; deep-sea diver suits, submarines, aquatic mer-people (or something or other, and a whale that was a submarine (the top of the whale could be removed to show a green-lit sub interior). That last prompted a good debate; was it a submarine disguised to look like a whale, or did a submarine, at full speed, drive up a whale's ass? We may never know. But I curse myself for not obtaining photos of this display; it was quite impressive!
Rivet Wars - We were offered the opportunity to do a demo; since we had only been there 10 minutes, we passed. I fully intended to go back and try it out, but alas, I was like a child suffering from ADHD who left his Ritalin at home, and mommy dropped me off in a store full of neon signs and candy.
Soda Pop Games - I only mention these guys to lament yet another lost photo opportunity: the hot girl at the booth. <sigh>
Our visit to Adepticon, as usual, was in time to view the 40K Team Tournament. Many impressive figures were on display, there many teams sporting matching clothing, theme and/or accessories, and many dead soldiers lying about (of the 40k and brewed variety). It's always interesting to make the rounds and observe paint schemes and themed armies. Alas, I was heavily disappointed by the large army displays on hand. In years past they were magnificent works. As of late, it seems like a second-hand thought to slap some cardboard, foam and wood filler together and give it a quick once-over with a can of Krylon. My soul wept for the lost art of displays.
I'd also like to point out that I noticed an increase in female gamers this year at Adepticon; in the past we've seen female attendees, but this year I noticed more women actually taking part in the tournaments and demos. Kudos to all the female commanders playing their part in the waging of war!
