Men...it has come to my attention that we are committing a HUGE mistake. We are a varied group of reasonable men from all walks of life. Ok, most walks of life. Some. A few. Whatever. The point is, we are men! No wait, that isn't the point...we are making a mistake! Yes! We are witty. We are resourceful. We are (somewhat) intelligent. And we are handsome. Well...most of us, anyways. But what I'm trying to say is this: why don't we come up with our own game? We understand and can argue the points of logic, physics and other smart-sounding stuff. And all through the years that we've been our own, loyal family, what have we done most together? Consumed alcohol! But after that...played games! All manner of games. Card games. Drinking games. Board games. And in cases where we lived together...mind games! We can put together our own gaming company and come up with the fun stuff. Do we want to continue working for someone else...or do we want to work for ourselves?! Viva la revolution! Join me brothers...and figure we'll figure something out! (Preferably something cool and a lot of fun)

Your nipples are ALWAYS hard. At least that's what Eron tells me.

I am personally already working on two games. One of them I have already gone as far as making cards, aquiring tokens, personality/character tiles, backstory(which needs a revision), and beta tested. It proves to need more fine tuning.
The second is in a more philosophical/statistical analysis portion as to make it work will require some tricky balancing... not impossible... but for it to be balanced the mechanics have to be "just right."
If anyone is actually interested in working on one with me I wouldn't be completely against it as it would encourage me to complete one of them.

Or if anyone would be interested in helping playtest the newest version of "GIX" (short for Ptolinium Gix), I could adjust my schedule to finalize a second round of beta tests... could be fun... or you all might think I am an ass.
Although, the latter will be harder to exemplify more than I have already done in the past.

That sounds like fun! Arrange something, and I will attend. We could bring pen/paper to a bar or someone could host a brainstorming or play testing session.
If you cant find anywhere else, I could host, if you make arrangements.

Well then give me a month or so to work on it so its more polished and ready... Then I will try to put something together..
The main hang-up is in the combat mechanics which were way too difficult to understand/ too difficult to defend... as most of the rest was working fairly well and as intended.
However, I believe with some modifications, which I have been brainstorming, it will be worked out...
Now I have to modify 100+ cards and the rules to reflect these changes so that it is again testable... Plus I need to re-run probabilities on resources and special cards eliminating the possibility of getting stuck without defense to a certain degree... as in all games dealing with averages and chance, you could get lucky and catch someone off guard or maybe a person is simply using a strategy which leaves them in that situation purposefully even though they were trying to bluff that they were building up for an attack...
So its a little complicated I guess...
To further intrigue. The game is based largely on a dream that I had where i was playing a super fun game, then I modified it slightly to be set in a different reality.
More to come.

As to what Sil was getting at, for an original game, fully hatched by the group and designed by the group,I am in 100%...
In my mind it is good to start with a base... but I can make games on my own... its far less fun.
If anyone has an idea for a game I will be there for ideas and playtesting!

Sil, as you started this thread did you have any ideas on a game?

Ok, I am sure this wasnt the point of this thread, as my interpretation of the title was new games...
However it occurred to me that maybe we could work as a group to mesh the "Mordheim" rules and the "necromunda" rules to make our own skirmish game...
To be fair, their is another skirmish style game "Zone Mortalis" by forgeworld, which is small squads fighting through a space hulk, tomb world, some other kind of maze with doors and traps and general inabilities to shoot large groups due to the whole map being corridors. ------
In the Mordheim game, as I was made to understand things, armies were very small groups, but key to its success was useing models directly from fantasy warhammer to make a warband. Generally an objective was to loot an object and bring it back to your starting point, it could be moving to a certain difficult area with a choke point... etc etc...
Basically you have very small groups capable of creating armies with forced to use their speed, numbers, unique abilities etc to instead of fight outright, to perform a function while holding everyone else at bay while you attempt to achieve the desired result.
A warband for vampire counts would be: 1 Vampire(hq)and then several ghoul, skeleton cheap units Skaven was to top the higher end with between 20-30 models... however large rats are even cheaper than goblins, which in 40k terms are around the cost of Gretchin...
But in small strategy based games sometimes cheap small units are worth more!
When your models die, they can no longer be used for future games, however winning or participation in the game gives a player the option to upgrade units or add models to replace the fallen(or a portion there of) based upon results.
It was apparently enough fun there was a large league in San Jose. Probably because you only have a few models... so its easy and quick.
Necromunda was similar, but I feel like the rules were poorly written as I have never met a single person who played it regularly(that I know of), so it is set in the right time period, but not fun. Or maybe it was because it was just another thing to do.
The best part of both these games is no new terrain needs to be built, the missions are for many players, and they play quick... well pending on number of players.
Then there is Zone Mortalis, much more strategy driven, but would require all of us pitching in and making some generic tiles, 1x1, which could be randomized and oriented any direction to create a maze, different every time.
Servo do you still have that paint sprayer... Cause my mind says spray all of the foam with a foam glue and then paint sprayer the whole thing once it dries... boom done quickly!
Again, what I hear is that it is fun, and mostly tactics... just foot troops... just wide enough for a terminator... but then again there could be rooms to hold monstrous creatures and maybe they are guarding an objective...
With the 6th rules being that you hit the closest model in the unit... running down tunnels with enemies everywhere gets a bit crazy!
Could be fun to just do a modeling day and each of us make 4 tiles...
------------------------------
So as people are feeling the urge to get creative, we could easily create our own skirmish style game to play 40k. It would significantly reduce game time, and could be fun.
Although... the rumor is gw is going to put one out for xmas... so maybe that will be the better route... course it could all be rumors and not true... -----------------------------
My suggestion would be to take the bog standard Tactical space marine squad of ten men plus a reasonable officer, rounded to the nearest reasonable number, as the points limit.
Everyone builds all-acommers warbands off this number... Or we can debate +/- 50 points(space marines can make up in wargear) for possibly a more even point limit...
Then convert the rules and missions from Mordheim to a 40k universe and run with it! It is probably very easy and most likely it will be fun! Plus games are quick!
Just a thought

In other make-it-yourself gaming news, I was at work and thought of a really simple game that could be fun... maybe a publisher would by it for a grand... I am having a hard time with the complete picture so obviously its at bare bones concept stage... If anyone is interested...
