While I am sure it is very accurate... I am not surprised by the findings. I have been betting that raising prices was to drive stock prices due to loss of model sales. But it keeps them far into the black, so to speak.
I really enjoyed the read though and cannot wait to read the other two!
Nice Find Servo!

Only read the first part so far. I think we all pretty much knew this, though maybe not the specific numbers. I did enjoy reading it, it does seem rather well-written and I shall have to devote more time to the remainder. I must admit, as much as I bitch about GW I do understand their reasoning for Fan-boy Butt-Rape (I don't AGREE with it...but I understand why they do it). And of course, it simply comes down to them being greedy bastards. Oh, what sad times are these when passing British game production and retailing companies can say "Me!" at will to old gamers. There is a pestilence upon this land!

The Future of Games Day and Games Workshop - Part 4Most of this I knew, but seeing the reasons, missteps, and explanations in the decision process REALLY makes me angry at GW. Also, the writer shows how the decisions by the consumers (us) helped GW along the path to the Dark Side (somewhat agree), but that you cannot blame a consumer for being informed and getting the best deal they can (really agree). He uses the Space Marine Company set as an example, and I know I really loved the discount when Mephiston and I split that deal. It was sweet!

Yah, most of that was what I had suspected... However what is repeated is how they have nearly priced themselves out of the gaming market, and how much margin is reasonable.
Clearly any business needs to stay profitable to continue existence but its also a hobby... I hope he gets into that in the next post...

Yah... fairly inflamatory, really hit a lot of the main issues. Although, I did feel like some things were left out... If even these issues were addressed in some way... I think I would be a lot happier though.
I mean the communication,or lack there of, with fans and their totalitarian(yet inconsistent)approach to dealing with things is such a big mistake.

Part 6 is about the giant fail that has become Games Day.
The writer is absolutely right. Games Day has become something to shun and deride, not something to look forward to.
All the things I loved about the first few Games Days we went to are gone: seminars, display cases full of unreleased models, bits sales, giveaways, the display table of a giant battle...
I'll just keep going to Adepticon.

In this installment... number 7... I feel like the gloves on approach is really being too kind. I mean, I am sooo happy I did not plan a games day excursion! I think I would have freaked out... I mean when attendance drops to what looks like all time lows, dont make it a sales adventure with "golden Daemons" to advertise product. Its ridiculous... or just plain stupidity... or the end of everything we know... I hope for GW they do not proclaim this a success and make these events fun to go to again! I had a great time at the Games Day I went to with Servo and GhostWheel... I got a mini! One I actually use! I went there as a fan of the hobby, not to buy stuff... I can do that online, from them if I choose... It feels like the point of the whole thing is lost to them, and maybe it is. For a better view of what he is talking about in this article watch this video: Keep in mind GW confiscated their cameras as they are no longer affiliated with them but Warren, the guy talking, is trying not to crap on GW too much as he wants to be back in their good graces... but he is having a hard time... youtu.be/kEzhxBQ4eQw

Just added Parts 7 and 7.5, about this past set of Games Days.
Although they centered on the Euro-style ones (which means clothing optional and a mandatory cigarette, right?), the themes and trends are GW Corporate.
I agree with JD, I am very glad I did not waste any money on this stupid event. GW is in a downward spiral it seems, and I just hope they come to their senses soon or someone with commonsense and a love for the game is there to pick up the pieces when they fall apart.

I thought this line sums up the whole series:
" All it takes is applying common sense. And that's what GW's management seems to have lost."
With that in mind it really hits the core of the community frustration. We are accustomed to a certain level of concern and as consumers we expect a certain degree of appreciation. These are not widgets which can be bought at a 7-11 and interchanged willy nilly, they are models which portray the rich IP of GW. There is a steep learning curve, so much so that every game no matter how many times you have read the rules, something new and unexpected occurs...
With these things in mind we expect a little something in return... We have had to work for this hobby, building terrain, painting, etc...
I think people want some recognition and Kudos for being in it to win it and dont like being simply participants in the growth of a company which makes decisions on greed and profit at the cost of fun and continued growth of the hobby... AKA Common Sense.
We do this for fun... we like rolling dice and pitting our whits against each other for "fair play." At some point the pure profit model fails to deliver... And then obviously there are the up-starts, why give money to a company who acts in the sense that they dislike you when x company is doing this... Its all very silly and a person would think they would eventually pull their collective heads out of their asses...

Parts 8 and 9 were released in quick succession this past weekend, mostly in response to GW's Financial news.
Apparently, their stock dropped a whopping 25%! This is huge. Based on poor sales in the past year, the stockholders lost confidence and started selling. And most people on the internet seem to agree on the reason: prices are too high. Hopefully, they will try to correct by lowering prices, but I am not holding my breath.
Basically, SALES have been low for a few years, but they have been hiding it with high PROFITS by raising prices across the board, releasing bigger (more expensive) kits, cutting overhead (stores and employees), and releasing Collector's Editions (at truly exorbitant prices) of books and codexes.
